ADOPTION PROCEDURE UPDATE:

The SEK Humane Society will be scheduling adoptions and fosters by appointment only!! We please ask that our community be patient with us during this time as there will be strict safety guidelines that we MUST follow and that our public MUST follow:

-adoptions and fosters will be by APPOINTMENT ONLY. We HIGHLY recommend interested individuals visit our website, www.thesekhumanesociety.com, to see a full list of our animals. You can also submit your adoption/foster application online in advance so we can start working on your paperwork to get you scheduled faster (forms are located in the "adopt" tab). Our phone lines are also back up running and you can contact us at 620-232-1840.

-these appointments are limited to residents in Crawford County, Cherokee County, Allen County, Neosho County, Wilson County, Anderson County, Elk County, Chautauqua County, Coffey, Linn, Labette, Woodson, and Bourbon County. Out of state adoptions are not allowed at this time.  The SEK Humane Society board will be revisiting this procedure every two weeks in direct correlation with the County/State data and guidelines on the COVID-19 virus.

-once applicants are successfully scheduled, when they arrive at the shelter they MUST bring and wear their own mask. We will have gloves and hand sanitizer on site.

-appointments will have a max limit of 2 people allowed from the potential adopter/foster.  Appointment attendees MUST wear masks and gloves before entering the shelter.

-NO WALK INS ARE PERMITTED.

Please remember that our facility will remain closed to the public (no walk ins/tours) however we will slowly be opening back up by an appointment only procedure. We know in some eyes this may seem extreme however many of our employees are at high risk with the virus during this time and we must ensure their health and safety. Again, we thank you all for your patience!

**The SEK Humane Society is currently near full capacity due to the high volume of owners relinquishing their animals.  During high volume times, intakes may not be available due to the shelter being at full capacity.  Intakes are by appointment only to help ensure health/safety standards are meet during COVID-19.  If the shelter cannot intake, please ask Management for information on other possible rescue facilities.**

JACK

Male, 5 Years Old, Lab & Boxer Mix, Microchipped, Up to date on vaccinations, Neutered, NO ADOPTION FEE due to sponsor, and Jack comes with a free consultation and a discounted training package from Good Boy Professional Dog Training!

If our supporters remember, we rescued Jack 2 years ago from a nearby trailway system. An awful soul decided that instead of caring for Jack that it was "best" to barricade him inside a one room restroom during the winter season with no food or water. When we found Jack....he was just skin and bones and couldn't move due to the extreme muscle loss due to his horrible condition. After 6-8 MONTHS of extreme care, Jack began to rebuild his body. Gone was a the sad pup that couldn't even make a few steps before collapsing, now we have this beautiful boy that LOVES to play and run and just love to spend every moment smiling. Sometimes when adopters come out to see him they become very wary of Jack's energetic energy but we promise he's a good boy. This guy LOVES to do tricks and he is looking for owner that is going to be patient with him as he learns to get through his energy boosts. Jack does great with other dogs and would do wonderful in an active household that would be able to play with him and take him for routine walks. Due to his prior health conditions, we found out that Jack must be kept on grain-free food.

Good Boy Professional Dog Training is also donating a free training consultation with Jack’s future family and a discounted training package!!

Thinking of perhaps adopting Jack?? We're currently conducting adoptions by appointment only (due to increase in COVID-19 cases). These will be (1) hour sessions were applicants can view 2-3 dogs/cats that they may be interested in adopting. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call us at 620-232-1840 (calling after 11AM is best as we are usually deep cleaning and rotating dogs in the early morning). You can even get your adoption approved faster by visiting our website, www.thesekhumanesociety.com, and submitting your dog/cat adoption application online (located under the adoptable animals tab). Can't adopt right now? Then do Jack a big favor and share this post so he can be seen by more potential adopters!

The SEK Humane Society thanks CDL Electric for all of their help in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic!
